Tips

history
The Song scholar 沈括 listed twenty-four bridges in Tang Yangzhou. Later writers held that it was one bridge, and a legend names it after twenty-four beauties who once played the flute there. The single-arch bridge in 瘦西湖 park today is a modern rebuilding.
culture
杜牧's line 二十四桥明月夜 "the Twenty-Four Bridges on a moonlit night" made the name. Centuries later the Song poet 姜夔 answered it, writing that the bridges still stood while a cold moon lit the water in silence.
