The Mesozoic (250–66 million years ago) was the 'age of dinosaurs', and mammals lived alongside them as mostly nocturnal, shrew-sized insectivores. China's Yixian Formation in Liaoning has produced some of the most important specimens in the world, including Eomaia (early placental) and swimming/gliding mammaliaforms.
