The term covers the treaties forced on China from the 《
南京条约》 of 1842 to the 《
辛丑条约》 of 1901 and beyond. They ceded land, opened treaty ports, fixed China's tariffs and put foreigners beyond the reach of Chinese courts. Chinese textbooks treat them as the core of the century of humiliation.
