Shanghai (short name
沪 Hù) is a provincial-level municipality (
直辖市) at the mouth of the Yangtze. Once a fishing town, it boomed after the 1842 Treaty of Nanking opened it as a treaty port. Today it is China's financial capital, home to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the Bund (
外滩), and Pudong's futuristic skyline.
