history
Named after the 《鹦鹉赋》, which 祢衡 wrote at a banquet held on the islet; he was later killed by the governor 黄祖 and buried there. The old 鹦鹉洲 washed away in the late Ming, and the name passed to a newer bar that later joined the Hanyang shore.
culture
Cui Hao's 《黄鹤楼》 ends its third couplet with 芳草萋萋鹦鹉洲, "the fragrant grasses grow lush on Parrot Islet".
