history

The Red Army ended the Long March here in 1935, and 延安 was the Communist capital until 1947, so in Party history 陕北 is the revolutionary heartland.

usage

Shaanxi falls into three parts: 陕北 in the north, 关中 around 西安 in the middle and 陕南 in the south.
