In Buddhist cosmology, existence is divided into six realms (
六道, liù dào): gods (
天), humans (
人), Asuras (
阿修罗), animals (
畜生), hungry ghosts (
饿鬼), and hell (
地狱). Asuras are powerful and fierce but consumed by anger and jealousy — they enjoy fighting and are often depicted as warrior-spirits in eternal conflict with the heavenly gods.
