Tips

culture
The brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric try to bring their dead mother back with alchemy. Edward loses an arm and a leg, replaced with steel limbs, hence 钢 'steel', and Alphonse his whole body. The story turns on 等价交换, the law that nothing is gained without giving up something of equal value. The manga ran from 2001 to 2010, and there are two anime series, from 2003 and 2009.
usage
The Chinese title copies the Japanese 鋼の錬金術師 (Hagane no Renkinjutsushi) character for character, with the classical 之 'of' standing in for の (no).
