Tips

history
The state of Han hoped the canal would drain Qin's strength. When the plot came out, Zheng Guo told the king that the canal would still serve Qin for ten thousand generations, and he was allowed to finish it. The 郑国渠 watered the plain north of the Wei River and helped make Qin rich enough to unify China. His exposure also set off the order expelling foreign officials that 李斯 answered in 谏逐客书.
history
The state of Zheng was conquered by the state of Han in 375 BC. Its old capital is today's 新郑 in Henan, and Confucius condemned its music, the 郑声, as licentious.
