In a traditional Chinese-style modern wedding the
证婚人 (zhènghūnrén, 'witness-officiant') is a respected senior — often a teacher, boss, or community elder — who reads the marriage certificate and gives a short speech blessing the couple. Different from a Western officiant in that they're usually not clergy and have no legal role.
