Specialist sports/race role: the person operating a stopwatch or timing system. 员 (yuán) is the standard staff/official suffix, same family as 裁判员 'referee', 运动员 'athlete', 计分员 'scorekeeper'. Don't confuse with 计时器 'timer/stopwatch (the device)'.
