The 西昌卫星发射中心 (Xichang Satellite Launch Center) is named after the city but lies in the mountains about 60 km to the north. The first four 嫦娥 moon probes and most 北斗 navigation satellites were launched from there.
usage
The full name is 西昌市. Its clear night skies earned it the name 月城 "Moon City", and every summer it holds the Torch Festival (火把节) of the Yi people.
