张衡 (78–139), better known as the astronomer who built the 地动仪 seismoscope, is said to have spent ten years on it and its companion 东京赋 on Luoyang. Together they are called the 二京赋.

It gave Chinese 街谈巷议 'street talk and alley gossip', and its scenes of tightrope walkers (走索), sword-swallowers and fire-breathers are an early record of Chinese acrobatics.
