Founded 1999 in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia (蒙古 'Mongolia' + 牛 'cow'). Together with rival 伊利 (Yili) it dominates the Chinese dairy market. The brand was scarred by the 2008 melamine milk scandal but has since rebuilt and become an Olympic / FIFA World Cup sponsor.
