Tips

history
The story is told in 葛洪's 《神仙传》: a patient cured of a serious illness planted five apricot trees, a light case one. After some years the grove held more than a hundred thousand trees, and Dong Feng traded the apricots for grain to feed the poor. With 华佗 and 张仲景 he is counted among the three great physicians of the Jian'an era.
culture
Because of him 杏林 'apricot grove' became a polite word for the medical profession. A fine doctor is praised as 誉满杏林 'famed throughout the apricot grove', and grateful patients still give clinics banners reading 杏林春暖 'spring warmth in the apricot grove'.
