Made by steaming glutinous rice then pounding it in a stone mortar (打糍粑) until it forms a sticky dough, then cut into patties. A Lunar New Year tradition across Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Sichuan and the Tujia/Miao minority regions. Often grilled, fried, or simmered in sweet ginger soup.
