留言板 (liúyánbǎn): message board

A holdover from the early-2000s blog era (博客 bókè) and Web 1.0 personal sites where every page had a guestbook. Modern social platforms replaced it with 评论区 (comments section) and 私信 (sīxìn, DMs). The word still appears on government and customer-service sites where users 'leave a message'.

usage

Literally 'leave-words board'. Slightly retro/formal — calling a comment area a 留言板 in 2026 is mildly old-fashioned, but on official sites it remains the standard label.
