history

One of China's first four Special Economic Zones (经济特区) designated in 1980 under Deng Xiaoping's reforms, alongside Shenzhen, Xiamen, and Shantou. Since 2018 connected to Hong Kong and Macau by the 55 km Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, the world's longest sea crossing.
