犬牙交错 (quǎnyá jiāocuò, 'fangs interlocking') is a fixed expression for jagged, irregular borders — historically used to describe how feudal fiefdoms intermeshed so neither side could easily attack the other. Still used today for complicated boundary lines on maps.
