Capital of Shandong (山东). Known as 泉城 ('City of Springs') for its 72 famous artesian springs, most notably 趵突泉 (Baotu Spring). Featured in the beloved essay 《济南的冬天》 by Lao She, a standard in Chinese textbooks.
mistakes
济 is read jǐ in this place name, NOT jì. The 济 of 济南 is the old 济水 river name. Elsewhere (e.g. 经济 jīngjì, 济南 being the notable exception, 救济 jiùjì) 济 is read jì.
