culture
Lin Sheng's Southern Song quatrain ends 直把杭州作汴州, 'they take Hangzhou for Bianzhou': having lost the north to the Jin, the court feasted in its new capital as if the old one had never fallen.
usage
The city went by several names. 汴京 and 汴梁 are the usual literary ones, and the Song called its capital 东京, the Eastern Capital. All the 汴 names come from the Bian River (汴河), the canal that brought grain to the city.
