Shu Uemura (1928-2007) was a Japanese makeup artist whose eponymous brand is best known in China for its cleansing oil (卸妆油) and the 砍刀眉笔 ('cleaver' brow pencil). Acquired by L'Oréal in 2004. The Chinese name is a direct borrowing of the founder's kanji name 植村秀.
