Shu Uemura (1928-2007) was a Japanese makeup artist whose eponymous brand is best known in China for its cleansing oil (
卸妆油) and the
砍刀眉笔 ('cleaver' brow pencil). Acquired by L'Oréal in 2004. The Chinese name is a direct borrowing of the founder's kanji name
植村秀.
