梅瑟 is the Catholic Chinese rendering of Moses, used in the Sigao Bible (《
思高本》, 1968) — the standard Catholic Chinese Bible. The Protestant Union Version (《
和合本》) uses
摩西 (Móxī) instead, which is the form most Mandarin speakers know. The split reflects different Latin/Greek source traditions:
梅瑟 follows the Latin Moyses,
摩西 follows the Greek Mōusēs.
