Rose from a frontier archer to crush the Jingyuan mutiny (泾原兵变) that drove Emperor Dezong into exile. His quick recapture of Chang'an restored the Tang court and earned him the dukedom of Xiping.
usage
The character 晟 is rare and usually read shèng (bright, flourishing); it also has an older reading chéng. For this general the standard reading is Shèng.
