Part of the traditional post-harvest sequence in Chinese rice and wheat farming: 打谷 (threshing) → 晒谷 (sun-drying) → 脱粒 (de-hulling) → 入仓 (storing). Farmers use flat paved areas 晒谷场 and periodically rake the grain to dry it evenly. Moisture below ~13% is needed for safe storage.
usage
In less agricultural contexts, modern slang uses 晒 for 'to show off' on social media (晒照片 = post photos). 晒谷 sticks to its literal farming meaning.
