Tips

history
A court poet of the Liang at 建康, he was sent as an envoy to the Western Wei in 554. While he was there, Wei armies took 江陵, where the Liang emperor held court, and he spent the rest of his life serving the Western Wei and the Northern Zhou. His 《哀江南赋》, 'Lament for the South', mourns the fall of the Liang.
culture
His early court poems, written with 徐陵, set the ornate fashion known as the 徐庾体. 杜甫 thought his later work in the north his best, writing that his art grew richer with age.
