Tips

usage
废物 names concrete material that has lost its use: factory output, scrap metal, packaging headed for recycling. Household rubbish is 垃圾, and rejected or substandard goods are 废品.
mistakes
Two different words are written 废物. This one, with a full fourth tone on the second syllable, is the material sense. With a neutral second syllable, 废物 is an insult for a useless person, so the tone decides whether you are talking about scrap or about somebody.
