希哲 is best known as the
字 (courtesy name) of
祝允明 (Zhu Yunming, 1461–1527), one of the "Four Talents of Wuzhong" (
吴中四才子) of the Ming dynasty alongside Tang Yin and Wen Zhengming. He was famous for his cursive (
草书) calligraphy and earned the nickname
祝枝山. The name
希哲 means "aspiring to wisdom" —
希 (to hope for) +
哲 (the wise/sage).
