氏 ('clan / family lineage / surname') tags
崔 as a clan name. The
博陵崔氏 and
清河崔氏 were two of the 'Five Surnames Seven Clans' (
五姓七族), the most prestigious aristocratic families of the Tang dynasty, so prestigious that even emperors struggled to marry into them. In classical fiction (e.g.
《莺莺传》, source of
西厢记),
崔氏 also names individual Cui-family women.
