氏 ('clan / family lineage / surname') tags
崔 as a clan name. The
博陵崔氏 and
清河崔氏 were two of the 'Five Surnames Seven Clans' (
五姓七族), the most prestigious aristocratic families of the Tang dynasty, so prestigious that even emperors struggled to marry into them. In classical fiction (e.g. 《
莺莺传》, source of
西厢记),
崔氏 also names individual Cui-family women.
