小产权房 are homes built by villages on rural collective land and sold to outsiders without full state title. Cheap (often half the price of legal housing), but buyers get no real ownership certificate and no guaranteed compensation if the building is demolished. Booming around Shenzhen and Beijing suburbs in the 2000s–2010s.
