始发站 (shǐfāzhàn): origin station

始发站 is the starting terminal, 终点站 (zhōngdiǎnzhàn) is the final terminal. These are paired in any itinerary. 始发 on its own can be an adjective: 始发列车 ('originating train'), meaning one that starts here rather than passing through. Savvy travelers prefer 始发 trains because you're guaranteed an empty car and better odds on standing-room tickets.

mistakes

Don't confuse with 起点站 (qǐdiǎnzhàn, 'starting point station'). They overlap, but 始发站 is more common on actual timetables, while 起点站 is geographic (start of a route regardless of schedule).
