Examples

Tips

history
First attested in the Yuan drama 《赚蒯通》 by an anonymous playwright: 再休想吉祥如意多管是你恶限临逼 ('don't hope any more for good fortune and your wishes'). Used negatively, but the four characters soon became a standalone blessing.

A ubiquitous Lunar New Year phrase, on red banners, lucky packets, and cards. Commonly paired: 吉祥如意万事如意阖家幸福.
