者 (zhě) is a productive suffix meaning 'one who [verb]s', forming agent nouns: 受益者 'one who receives benefit' = beneficiary; same pattern as 作者 (author), 读者 (reader), 死者 (the deceased). Slightly more formal than the equivalent with 人.
