Tied to 端午节 (Duānwǔjié, Dragon Boat Festival, 5th day of the 5th lunar month). Legend says people threw rice dumplings into the Miluo River to feed the fish and protect the body of poet 屈原 (Qu Yuan, 340–278 BCE), who drowned himself in protest — 粽子 is now a festival food nationwide.
