Tips
usage
Emperor Yuan is a posthumous title that several rulers received, so the chapter is named together with its book: in the 汉书 it is Liu Shi (r. 48–33 BC), in the 晋书 Sima Rui, founder of the Eastern Jin, and in the 梁书萧绎 (r. 552–555).
history
The Han annals record Emperor Xuan's warning about his Confucian-minded heir, that the Han had its own way of ruling, which mixed the ways of the hegemon and the king, and his sigh that this son would ruin the family. Xiao Yi of Liang, a great collector of books, burned his library of some 140,000 scrolls when Western Wei troops took his capital Jiangling in 554.
