The Beijing-Guangzhou Railway runs through Zhengzhou, Wuhan and Changsha and is a main north-south artery.
Tips
usage
Route names join one-character city abbreviations: 京 for 北京 and 广 for 广州. Same pattern: 京沪 (Beijing-Shanghai) and 京港澳, the expressway on to Hong Kong and Macao. Elsewhere 广 can stand for 广东, though that province's official abbreviation is 粤.
history
The line got its name in 1957, when the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge joined the old Beijing-Hankou (京汉) and Guangzhou-Hankou (粤汉) railways into one.
