Tips

culture
Distinct from regular full-time universities (普通高校 pǔ-tōng gāo-xiào). 业余 (yè-yú) literally means 'outside one's main occupation', so a 业余大学 runs evening and weekend classes for in-service workers. Most have been folded into the 开放大学 (Kāi-fàng Dà-xué, Open University) system since the 2010s.
mistakes
Don't confuse 业余 'part-time / amateur' with 业务 (yè-wù, 'business affairs'). 业余大学 is a school *for amateurs / part-timers*, not a 'business college' (which would be 商业大学 shāng-yè dà-xué).
