Chuánshuō Shāngcháo hé Zhōucháo de zǔxiān dōu shì Gāoxīnshì de érzi.
Legend says the ancestors of both the Shang and the Zhou were sons of Gaoxin.

氏 marks a clan name, as in 神农氏 and 伏羲氏. 高辛 was the land he held before he took the throne, placed by tradition in today's Henan. The 《史记》 counts him among the 五帝, the Five Emperors.
