Qinghai ('Blue Sea') is named after
青海湖 (Lake Qinghai / Kokonor), China's largest salt lake. Sitting on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the province is the source of three great rivers — the Yellow (
黄河), Yangtze (
长江) and Mekong (
澜沧江) — known as
三江源 (Three Rivers Source).
