The rime along the Songhua River in
吉林市 is counted among China's four great natural wonders, with the scenery of Guilin, the Stone Forest in Yunnan and the Three Gorges of the Yangtze. It forms on winter nights when the river, kept from freezing by warm water released from a dam upstream, steams into air of minus 20 degrees or colder, and the vapour freezes onto the willows along the bank.
