history
Recorded in Ming-dynasty Xie Zhaozhi's《文海披沙记》, citing an imperial inscription: '雨过天青云破处,这般颜色做将来' — used to specify the famed Ru-kiln 'sky-blue' glaze color. Both 雨过天晴 and 雨过天青 are attested forms.
usage
Works literally for weather and figuratively for any post-crisis recovery — political, financial, emotional. Often pairs with 否极泰来 in the same breath.
