遍野 ('all over the wilderness') is a bound form, almost always used in compounds:
漫山遍野 (mànshān-biànyě, 'all over hills and fields'),
哀鸿遍野 (āihóng-biànyě, 'sufferers everywhere'),
尸横遍野 (corpses strewn across the land). Rarely stands alone in modern speech.
