From Suzhou in Jiangsu, the most famous of China's four great embroidery traditions (
四大名绣), alongside
湘绣,
粤绣 and
蜀绣. It favours soft colours and stitches so fine that a single silk thread is split into many strands. Its showpieces are double-sided works, such as a cat that looks complete from either side.
