Common in archaeology and museum-catalogue Chinese — bronze vessel taotie 饕餮纹 (tāotiè wén) masks, dragon-and-phoenix patterns 龙凤纹饰 (lóngfèng wénshì), cloud-and-thunder patterns 云雷纹 (yúnléi wén). Slightly more formal than the everyday 花纹 (huāwén).
