Named after Lufeng County, Yunnan, where it was excavated in 1938 by paleontologist 杨钟健 (C.C. Young). It was assembled in 1941 as the first complete dinosaur skeleton ever mounted in China, and appeared on a 1958 postage stamp — the first dinosaur ever featured on a stamp worldwide.
