history

In January 1941 the headquarters column of the 新四军 was moving north out of southern Anhui under orders when Nationalist troops surrounded it near 茂林 in 泾县. Most of the column was lost, and its commander 叶挺 was held prisoner until 1946. It is also called the 新四军事件 (New Fourth Army Incident).
