Hebei (short name
冀, from the ancient prefecture Jizhou
冀州) means "north of the (Yellow) River." It wraps around Beijing and Tianjin and contains much of the Great Wall, including the Shanhaiguan
山海关 and Jinshanling
金山岭 sections. Chengde
承德, with the Qing emperors' summer palace, is also in Hebei.
