Phonetic rendering of Spanish/English 'mesa' (MEI-SA). Most often refers to Mesa, Arizona (a Phoenix-area suburb). Also used for the geological feature - a flat-topped hill with steep sides - common in the American Southwest. Distinct from 梅萨林 (muslin fabric).
